In Soulard, St. Louisans will get to celebrate Mardi Gras all of February at a new pop-up bar.
Carnival, a Mardi Gras pop-up concept from Molly’s in Soulard, will be open weekends starting this Sat., Jan. 25. The pop up will wrap up with a “Fat Tuesday Grand Celebration of debauchery” on Feb. 25. It’ll be at 808 Geyer Avenue, the former space of now-shuttered 808 Maison, where the Christmas pop up Lit was held this past holiday season.
Molly’s marketing and brand manager Addi Harmon says that the bar will give folks the opportunity to celebrate Mardi Gras outside of the all-day drinking holiday that many in town have come to expect, as well as bringing the focus back to “the real Mardi Gras.”
“We wanted to give something for everyone in St. Louis that wants to enjoy a little more of Mardi Gras, not just that huge, crazy day-of Grand Parade,” she says. “Our main goal for this is to kind of bring out the history of the real Mardi Gras and the carnival month that comes before it.”
Guests can expect plenty of decorations, something that the Molly’s team had great feedback on during the Lit pop up. They will also be able to drink from a menu of carnival-themed cocktails including some New Orleans classics like a house Hurricane and a Dark and Stormy. The menu will also feature a build-your-own Bloody Mary bar and The Rex, a bubbling, green fishbowl cocktail garnished with candy meant to be shared. But the venue also has a full bar, so you can just enjoy a beer if that’s more your style.
Carnival will also feature shared appetizers and snacks available with a Cajun-Creole theme, but check the bar’s websites for kitchen hours.
Carnival will be open Thursdays from 6 to 11pm, Fridays and Saturdays from 6pm to 1:30am and Sundays from 10am to 3pm for brunch and from 6 to 10pm for drinks.
Reservations can be made online and are $15, which gets you into the bar, your first cocktails and a light-up Mardi Gras bead necklace. Walk-ins will also be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
